There are over 1,700 Community Foundations around the world. The WINGS Global Status Report: 2010 shows the global distribution of Community Foundations at that time. Since 2010 there has been great growth in community philanthropy, particularly in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

- WINGS (Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support)
WINGS is an independent global not-for-profit network that brings together associations and support organizations serving philanthropy in more than 50 countries.
- Global Fund for Community Foundations (GFCF)
The Global Fund for Community Foundations (GFCF) is a grassroots grantmaker working to promote and support institutions of community philanthropy around the world.
The Council on Foundations has several arms that support Community Foundations:
- Center for Community Foundation excellence
The Council on Foundations, conjunction with Indiana University’s Center on Philanthropy, runs professional development courses for community foundation staff, board members and volunteers.
- The annual Fall Conference for Community Foundations. The next is to be held in Cleveland, Ohio on October 18-22, 2014.
